The Mad Hatter (Hatter Mad) is a character invented by Lewis Carroll first appeared in 1865 in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and reappears with the name of Hatta in Through the Looking Glass and what Alice Found There (1871 ). As with all his characters, Carroll does not give a precise description of person, but focuses more on the behavior of the character and his way of interacting with Alice. The character that comes from the old English "Being mad as a hatter" (Mad as a Hatter), which stemmed from the custom of using mercury in the manufacture of hats, a substance that had devastating effects on mental health of the artisans hatters. Legend has it that Carroll was inspired by this Theophilius Carter, creator of whimsical watches whimsical, he used to wear a cylinder head. For his part, John Tenniel was inspired to draw it to Benjamin Disraeli, who had caricatured in one of his skits.
